Task 1a Master Shots

The Unseen Attacker

The unseen attacker is an effective way to add to the suspense and tension to a story. It's particularly effective when the victim is helpless or without assistance, because then the audience can focus on just the good vs evil.

The scene would have a victim walking or minding his or her own business. However, the audience and the victim are indirectly warned before the unseen attacker actually moves in for the kill. The victim would hear footsteps or an unusual sound that would be alarmed and briefly scout the area or look around, being afraid. However, while the victim is helpless and clueless, the attacker creeps in from a corner. At this point, the audience still doesn't know the identity of the attacker. The camera will be filming in the attacker's point of view.

(Note: It would be helpful if the camera uses short lens, because the attacker's approaching/pouncing-on-the-prey would look faster than how fast the victim can escape)

The attacker's identity can either be revealed at the end of the scene, or not revealed at all, or only partially revealed.

The Closing Attacker

In a chase scene, the audience an see the victim escaping. However, they are looking at the scene in the eyes of the attacker. The victim should be escaping towards a particular place, and the audience should know where he or she is running towards. The camera-view nears the victim running away until the attacker jumps into the scene and pounces at the victim. The whole scene needs to be fast-paced in order to induce into the scene a sense of urgency.

(Note: Use short lens. It will help when the camera-view gains upon the victim)

*If the short lens is unavailable, just film without the zoom.

Summary: The victim is walking down the stairs of the school, ready to leave. The victim is all alone and hears footstep, but sees no one; the footsteps stop when the victim stops. The victim first looks around and walks again, but hears the footsteps again and stops. The victim looks around and spots the attacker and tries to climb back up the stairs to an entrance. However, the bag/load that he carries slows the victim down. The attacker quickly gains up on the victim and pounces on the victim over the rail. The victim is shown lying forward, bloodless, and without the bag.
